A History

History of the Association

The Kirkintilloch and District Bowling Association was founded on the 14th April 1909, present were delegates from the following bowling clubs:
Bishopbriggs, Campsie, Chryston, Kilsyth, Kirkintilloch, Victoria Torrance, Westermains and Woodilee.
These clubs were joined by Strathblane in 1910, and Stepps in 1912.

A full centenary history of the K & D Association has been written by myself, and will be published in February 2009.
In addition to the publication of the Centenary History, we intend to present our Minute Books to the William Patrick Library in Kirkintilloch, These books will be rebound, and kept in the Archive section of the library, as a permanent reminder of not only a 100 years of bowling history, but also as part of the social history of Kirkintilloch, from 1909 to the present day.

Gold MedalGold MedalFrom the start of the Points Four Competition, in 1909, gold medals were presented by the President to the winning rink, and from 1913 onwards a gold medal was presented to the winner of the Singles competition, and finally in 1926 a Pairs Championship was started, and again gold medals were presented to the winners.
To date I have only traced one of these gold medals, won by David McNab of Kirkintilloch BC in season 1911-12

If you have any knowledge of any of the other prize winning medals, or any other memorabilia, i.e. photographs or newspaper articles of the time, , could you please get in touch with me, so that I could arrange to photograph the medal, or scan the photograph, as these items would also be part of the exhibition in the William Patrick museum.

Also if you wish to contact me on any other matter relevant to our centenary history, please feel free to contact me, through this Web page.
